From 26 September 2026, Erste Bank Polska has begun using the POLSTR 1M Compounded Rate benchmark instead of WIBOR 3M for newly arranged mortgage agreements. According to PRNews.pl, the change applies only to new applications and affects how often the interest rate is updated.

What happened

PRNews.pl reports that Erste Bank Polska has replaced the WIBOR 3M reference rate with the new POLSTR 1M Compounded Rate for new mortgage loans. The applicable benchmark is disclosed in the information forms given to mortgage applicants.

The new benchmark applies both to loans with a variable rate from the start of the term and to those where the variable rate takes effect once a five-year fixed-rate period ends.

What it means for customers

The key difference from the previous arrangement is how often the rate changes — under POLSTR 1M it is updated monthly, whereas WIBOR 3M was revised every three months. This means monthly instalments could be adjusted more frequently than before.

After each rate change, the bank produces an updated repayment schedule, accessible through the mobile app and online banking. The change does not affect loans already granted or applications submitted before 26 September 2026, which continue under the previous WIBOR 3M terms.

What to check before deciding

Anyone planning to apply for a mortgage with Erste Bank Polska can check at what stage their application stands and whether the information form was issued before or after the changeover date, as this determines which benchmark applies.

It is also worth noting the APRC figure the bank quotes for the offer linked to Platinum account holders, since the loan’s pricing terms may be connected to the personal account held with the bank.
