Money Shortlist is free to read and has no paywall. This page explains how the site earns money, how you can recognise a paid link, and what that money does not buy.
How we earn
Some links to banks and other providers are affiliate links. If you open a product after clicking one — and meet the provider’s conditions — the provider or an affiliate network pays us a commission. We work with affiliate networks (currently Money2Money) and with providers’ own partner programmes for publishers. We do not use personal “refer a friend” codes on the site; those programmes are meant for private recommendations, not for a comparison site.
How you recognise an affiliate link
Every affiliate link carries the label Affiliate link next to the button, and the link itself is marked for search engines with rel="sponsored nofollow". Buttons without the label lead straight to the provider’s page and earn us nothing. Links to source documents — fee tables, terms, promotion rules — are never affiliate links.
What commission does not change
- The order. Every ranking is calculated from published criteria and weights, printed on the ranking page; commission is not one of them and is not in the data the score is computed from. The frozen data set of each edition lets you check this — see How we rate.
- Who is on the list. Products with no affiliate programme are compared and ordered in exactly the same way. In some rankings — fintechs and mobile banks, fintech savings accounts — none of the products currently earns us anything.
- What you pay. Opening a product through an affiliate link costs you nothing extra; the commission comes from the provider’s marketing budget. You get the same terms as a customer who typed the bank’s address into the browser.
- The content. Providers cannot buy a place, a score or a description. There are no sponsored rankings and no paid placements.
Advertising
The site may also show ads served by Google (AdSense). Ads are marked as such, are placed outside the ranking tables and have no influence on the content. How ads use data: Privacy policy.
